South Australian Artist – Avril Thomas is a full time Artist specializing in Traditional style Contemporary Realist Portraiture and figurative work, with original paintings and drawings in Corporate and private collections round Australia and Internationally.
Her work is featured in the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, has been selected in many National competitions or exhibitions. For example, Kedumba drawing award, The Archibald and Women Painting Women a National Biannual event in Victoria (selected in the first 8 artists nationwide for the inaugural exhibition.) Commissioned by Arts in Health at Flinders Medical Centre and painted a 42-piece collection in which 10 surgeons and all the staff working with them at the time took part. Followed by A commission by Adelaide University School of Medicine to paint 59 luminaries for an exhibition at Bonython Hall, Adelaide Convention Centre and at the School of Medicine. 9 portraits for Monash University. Flinders University – Vice Chancellor Anne Edwards. Her work has hung at Federal Parliament House in Canberra.
Avril has been a member of Portrait Artists Australia, Royal South Australian Society of Arts, and The Portrait Society of America.
She has judged 9 local art shows and 2 International Art Prizes. Her Art Gallery is at Magpie Springs where local, National and International Artists have exhibited and visited. Seymour College included Magpie Springs for 2 yrs as part of their Arts curriculum.

Currently Avril Thomas works at her studio at Magpie Springs south of Adelaide in the centre of the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia.
Avril is available to paint an original custom-made portrait or a drawing of you or your loved ones…… These works are archival.
To discover the ideal vision for your Corporate or Heirloom portrait project, Avril will gather visual information about your portrait through conversation, photography and perhaps paint sketches from life. Avril prefers the work will tell a story of the subject but sometimes something simpler is required.
GIFT GIVING
Avril finds the best gift, is when the subject participates with making of their portrait or painting. These works become a wholly personal, collaborative and meaningful adventure for them. The one-of-a-kind, heirloom quality image in which they had a part in the making.
Avril prefers to paint from her own photos and references, but to paint a portrait as a surprise gift, working from your own photography sometimes is possible (but rare), depending on the photo or photos.
