Artist Avril Thomas and her husband purchased Magpie Springs a vineyard, Cellar Door and Art Gallery in 2013. It is an unusual rustic farm in the centre of the Fleurieu Peninsula near McLaren Vale, an Adelaide Hills Wine Region Vineyard in South Australia. 7 grape varietals are grown onsite and wine is made from the grapes. There is an Art Gallery and Cellar Door .
Many Art exhibitions, and events have taken place onsite. The wine is completely boutique, small batch and only available to purchase onsite! Many couples have chosen the garden to marry. 1000s of people from round the globe have visited.
Avril Thomas specializes in tonal realism portraiture but is also an avid photographer. She’s visually documented wine life and living on Magpie Springs since arrival, these images were always conversation starters at the Cellar Door. People had such fun with them.
Given the wines are small batch and so boutique, Magpie Springs was reliant on visitors buying wine onsite. When COVID19 hit early 2020; with travel thwarted and lockdowns in place. She decided drastic measures were needed if people couldn’t visit, it was time to get her images available online as prints. She has over 500 designs online worldwide now in many collections.
